Ragnar Recap – the Untold Stories of Running Through the Mountains

Well, it’s been a little over two months and I realize I never shared any stories about running through the mountains!  Let me say that there are stoooooriiieeees!!  The Ragnar Relay was one of the wildest adventures I’ve ever been on!  From my fantastic teammates to the physical aspect to the stories behind other runners to the extreme amount of time spent in a confined space… how could there NOT be stories!

BUT – the big winner is… drumroll please… YOUR story!

One of my favorite things about YOUR story is that it’s completely unique to you AND it must be experienced in order to share it with others.  There’s a plot, lots of characters, conflict, heart break and triumph.  Simply put, for every one of the 1000+ runners at Ragnar Colorado, there were that many personal stories and I couldn’t get enough of listening to them!  Peer pressure made some do it.  One team ran to honor a young family member that had passed away too soon last year from cancer.  The team included two twin boys in their teens, a 60+ year old runner and 80+ year old grandma just along for the ride.  Some ran because it sounded like fun.  Some had to overcome asthma attacks and injuries along the way.  Some did it simply because – why not?  Which is a question I have found myself asking a lot lately – why not?  We only get one chance in THIS life and while there is no reason to be reckless, I believe there is every reason to fully live as many experiences as possible.

YOUR story, MY story, is a journey.  It is developed over time by each and every experience lived or not lived.  It’s shaped by the belief we have in ourselves and the belief others have in us.  Thankfully we aren’t in this alone – could you imagine?!  It’s a journey of humility, love, courage, perseverance, gratitude and so much more.  It’s a journey that should absolutely be lived with LOTS of learning lessons (many might call these failures) and LOTS of triumphs.  As each leg of the journey peaks, take a moment to celebrate the view!  Revel in the beautiful (even if sometimes painful) process you had to go through to get where you are and when you’re ready, begin the next leg of your journey.

You see, as I was running in the dark surrounded by my thoughts I realized that I almost said no because it wasn’t planned for in my budget, I was scared to be running so many miles at an even greater altitude then I live, I didn’t want to let anyone down by my race inexperience and the list goes on.  I couldn’t be more thankful that I said yes because it was exhilarating to finish something bigger then me, be a part of something bigger then I could do alone AND the stories, yes the stories, the accomplishment will always be a part of my personal journey.  One I’m glad to be finally embracing and living fully!

Let me ask you – how is your story going to play out?  Better yet – how do you WANT it to play out?

You won’t always have the answers and you will rarely know the ending.  Sometimes it’ll be scary and sometimes it’ll be a breeze.  Are you going to say yes and then do what it takes to prepare for it?  Are you going to step outside your comfort zone and take action?  Or are you going to sit by and watch because of this or that as the experiences of life pass by?  It’s entirely up to you.

My friends, if you are looking to embrace the fullness of life – don’t let anything stand in your way!  If you’ve got health concerns, reach out and ask for help.  If you’re afraid, ask a friend to join you.  If you don’t have the finances, think outside the box.  You are the one that has to live in your life and on your way you’ll meet the most amazing people willing to support you, to join you on your journey.  And THAT is why myself, as well as all of Thrive Team, do what we do… to meet you where you are, to support you where possible and to lift you up to your greatest potential – if you want it.

Friends, I absolutely enjoy sharing my stories but more then that, I would love for you to create your own stories… to LIVE your own experiences and then I want to hear about them!

What are you waiting to say yes to today?!

If you’ve got a story you’d like to share.. be sure to leave it in the comment section below.  Can’t wait to hear what you have to say!
